What is Christian Counselling?
What issues are usually explored?
What happens in the counselling process?
Counselling offers the opportunity for you to express your feelings, your struggles, and your concerns in a non-judgmental atmosphere, to understand and pursue solutions that reflect your values and your relationship to Jesus Christ.
How long does counselling take?
You control the amount of time and energy you put into a 50-minute session and the number of sessions. You can negotiate the frequency of sessions with your counsellor to explore your needs and meet the goals you set.
Is counselling confidential?
What you share with a counsellor is generally confidential with these exceptions:
1. By law, counsellors are required to report child abuse;
2. Any records kept of the sessions can be subpoenaed by the Court of law or counsellor(s) may be called to testify; and
3. If you or someone else's life is in danger, counsellors must take action to keep you and/or that person safe.
If you wish to transfer your file (contains information revealed in session[s]) to someone else, our clinic requires WRITTEN permission from you to do so.
How do I fund my counselling?
There are a number of ways that you can fund your counselling:
1. From your own personal resources;
2. You may qualify for some aid from your work benefits;
3. Your church may supply some help (check our CESA [Church Extension Services Agreement] plan);
4. Family and/or friends may be open to contributing;
5. Negotiate a payment plan with the clinic.
What about phone counselling?
Because of circumstances (distance, health, etc.) beyond your control, some have opted to pursue phone counselling. There is a process which involves timing and funding available--contact a counsellor for the details--it does involve some upfront planning!
