Premarital Counselling

The Premarital Counselling Package helps couples considering marriage to make a sound decision on whether to go ahead with a marriage and if so, to prepare them for this important commitment. We believe strongly in marriage and seek to assist however we can in building solid and healthy relationships that last for a lifetime. Through testing, counseling sessions and homework assignments, the couple gains information about themselves, their needs, values and personality. This information is very useful in making wise decisions about their relationship.

One inventory, or test, is part of the assessment. Each partner completes this on his or her own time and mails it in for scoring and interpretation. The inventory is Prepare/Enrich and assesses relationship strengths and growth areas such as communication, financial management, expectations, religious orientation, roles, sexuality and conflict resolution. Additional tests or inventories are available if the situation warrants their use.

One book and two workbooks form the framework for the teaching component. Les and Leslie Parrot’s Saving Your Marriage Before It Starts book along with the companion men and women’s workbooks are the primary tools. Each person needs to budget extra time to read the book and work on the workbooks and other assigned homework.

Along with the information from the inventory and the book and workbooks, seven hours of consultation, feedback and counseling are provided. This helps the couple learn about important areas of their relationship, identify and practice skills and attitudes important to a marriage and discuss different sources of information and directions to take.

The total price for the Premarital Counseling Package with Master’s level counsellor is $600.00, with RCC. $750.00 and with PhD. counsellor $1,000.00. The counselor will arrange the times and frequency of the sessions with the couple and any additional sessions if desired.

Workshops

Workshops can be done here, on our premises, or at your church, or other suitable location. They can be designed to meet whatever needs you would like to address. How can we be of help to you? Please tell us what you think. Would any of these topics be a blessing to you, or is there something else you would like to have us design a workshop around. Workshops can be designed around topics of concern, including areas of:

  • Forgiveness
  • Anxiety/worry
  • Sexual addiction
  • Self-esteem
  • Safe people
  • Healthy grieving
  • Career changing
  • Freedom from depression

Each workshop requires a minimum of 6 people, pre-registered and prepaid. Cost is $50 per person, and does not include the price of a resource book (if required). All workshops take place at the New Life Christian Counselling office (unless another location is requested). Workshops usually follow an 8 hour format; 2 hours on Friday, and 6 on Saturday. Workshop leaders are John Wassen and Kay Legge.

Career Assessment Package

The Career Assessment Package is designed to help the individual in the career decision-making process. Whether just starting out in the marketplace or planning or needing to make career changes this package can point you in the right direction. Through a series of tests and sessions, the individuals will gain basic information about themselves, their interests and personality. This information is useful in making critical choices about which career path to explore.

Three inventories are the backbone of the assessment. The individual completes these on their own time and brings them in for scoring and interpretation.

The three tests are:

  • The Strong Interest Inventory (SII) The SII surveys a person’s interests and compares them to people in various occupational groups and looks for themes and patterns that are foundational to the different types of jobs and careers.
  • The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) This test explores personality styles or traits that also are important to understand because they help to suggest which careers are good matches for particular styles.
  • The Work Values Inventory (WVI) The WVI explores a person’s values and highlights the importance of these in the workplace.

Along with the information from these instruments, three hours of consultation and feedback are provided. This helps the individual to explore the results from the tests, identify skills important in the workplace and discuss different sources of information and directions to take.

The total price for the Career Assessment Package is $300.00 when administered by a Master’s Level Therapist.

Student Career Assessment Package is $150, and includes 1.5 hours of counselling.
